Amateur satellite technology is a field of communication developed and used by amateur radio operators (radio amateurs), typically for non-profit scientific, experimental, and educational projects. Essentially, it enables the transfer of data, voice, and images via radio waves between ground-based radio devices and small satellites in space. These systems are typically based on satellites, such as CubeSats or PocketQubes, which travel in low Earth orbit (LEO) and are no larger than a shoebox.
